2026 Family Physician of the Year

Saskatchewan Family Physician of the Year Award

Dr. Breanna Davis

Reg L. Perkin Saskatchewan Family Physician of the Year Award

Dr. Breanna Davis grew up in Saskatchewan and has built her life, her family, and her career here. After completing medical school at the University of Saskatchewan and her Family Medicine residency in Prince Albert in 2009, she stayed to practice at the Associate Medical Clinic, caring for patients across the lifespan and providing obstetrical care. Teaching has always been part of her work, and she’s had the privilege of supporting learners at every stage—medical students, nurse practitioners, and residents—while serving in roles such as Residency Training Coordinator and, since 2011, Residency Research Coordinator/Site Scholarship Lead.

Her commitment to advancing family medicine extended nationally through her service on the Editorial Advisory Board of Canadian Family Physician from 2018–2024. Closer to home, her long-standing partnership with Sturgeon Lake First Nation began in 2010 and continues today through clinical and research collaborations, including her current work at Homebase, a new youth centre in the community.

When COVID-19 arrived, she stepped into new leadership roles within the Assessment Centre and helped establish their Hospitalist program, later serving as Division Lead from 2020–2023. She now serves as Vice President of the North Central Medical Staff Association and as Honorary Treasurer on the Saskatchewan Medical Association Board.

She lives in Melfort with her husband, Scott, and their children, Emory and Mayson—her most joyful and grounding

SCFP RESIDENT LEADERSHIP AWARDS

Dr. Husam Muftah

I am a family physician practicing in Regina, Saskatchewan, and a graduate of the University of Saskatchewan’s Family Medicine residency program at the Regina site. During residency, I was actively involved in resident leadership and advocacy, including serving as Chair of the provincial Family Medicine Lead Resident Committee. I have a particular interest in the care of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, shaped by my previous work in assistive technology, experience providing direct support through local community organizations, and later clinical work with community-based disability services during residency. These experiences have strengthened my commitment to improving access to inclusive, person-centered primary care for people with disabilities in our community.
